How to Knit a Reversible Variant of the Trellis Stitch

    February 22, 2024 /

Today, I’m sharing how to knit a variant of the Trellis stitch (it reminds me of the Seersucker stitch we practiced years ago, but this one includes fewer rows). Why did I choose it? Well, because it has a lot of advantages for us knitters… First, it’s reversible (identical on both sides), which makes it a great pattern for dishcloths, blankets, scarves, etc. Second, it lays flat no matter what, so there’s no need to add edges or borders. Third, it’s a knit-and-purl pattern (we don’t have to increase, decrease, cross stitches, etc.).  If you are a newbie, I’m sure you can master this one!  Last, but not least, it…

How to Knit Teardrops: Texture + Volume in One Stitch Pattern!

    February 7, 2024 /

Today, I’m teaching you how to knit teardrops, to create an eye-catching fabric. Honestly, it looks complicated, I know, but the truth is that is fun to knit, and pretty intuitive… On the one hand, most of the rows are knit and purl rows and this is why the so-called “wrong side” of the work resembles a beehive, also rich in texture and volume. So I’d say it’s a reversible stitch. Moreover, it doesn’t curl! On the other hand, we have practiced the other techniques required several times, as we did when I shared how to knit The 14 Stitches Scarf, so there’s really nothing scary here 😉 Last but…

How to knit the Garter Slip stitch (4 rows and no purling!)

    October 14, 2023 /

Today, I’m sharing how to knit the amazing Garter Slip stitch 🙂 It’s a four-row repeat pattern, two of which are plain knit rows, so it’s easy to knit and memorize. In addition, the Garter Slip stitch looks great not only on the right side; it has an interesting texture on the so-called wrong side, so to me, it’s a reversible pattern. Actually, it’s a great stitch for scarves and infinite cowls, among other projects such as blankets, dishcloths, and baby stuff, because there is a third advantage to it: It stays flat! Furthermore, is a little bit stretchy, yet firm and spongy at the same time… Besides, it makes…

How to knit the Garter Rib stitch, great for beginners (two rows only!)

    July 22, 2023 /

Today, I’m sharing how to knit the Garter Rib stitch, which shares the DNA of the infamous Mock Rib stitch. It’s a super easy two-row repeat pattern, great for beginners. In fact, if the only stitches you know (or like, or love) are knit and purl, this one is dedicated to you. Although it’s not identical on both sides, they look pretty, so to me, it’s a reversible pattern. Furthermore, it lays flat no matter what, so it’s perfect for blankets, scarves, etc. Nevertheless, you can also use the Garter Rib stitch for edges or borders, because it meets all the requirements, as mentioned above. Last, but not least, don’t…

    July 18, 2023 /

In this post, I’m sharing how to knit a very special Rib stitch, ideal for beginners. Actually, it’s a two-row repeat pattern, easy to do and easy to memorize, and pretty stretchy. Although both sides are not identical, I’d say it’s a reversible stitch, because both sides look pretty. In addition, the only techniques required are knit stitch and purl stitch… And from time to time, we’ll slip one stitch, which helps us create those gorgeous embossed columns of “v’s”. That’s the touch of elegance that makes this Ribbing so unusual 🙂 Finally, this is a great pattern for hems, cuffs, socks, gloves, hats, etc. Enough chatting! Grab your needles,…

How to knit the Beaded Rib (two rows, reversible, and doesn’t curl!)

    June 14, 2023 /

In this post, I’m sharing how to knit the Beaded Rib stitch; an adorable two-row repeat pattern, perfect for beginners! Why? Firstly, it’s a super easy knit and purl stitch pattern (no need to cross, increase, or decrease stitches). Secondly, it doesn’t curl, so we don’t need to think of adding edges or borders. Actually, this is a great pattern for edges… As you already know, every time you are working on a pattern that bends or rolls, you need a nice edge to prevent the garment from curling. And as knitters, we are used to the Garter or Seed stitch for those edges. Well, you can add this one…

    June 3, 2023 /

Today, you’ll learn how to knit the Checker stitch, with knits and purls only. It’s a simple yet pretty pattern, easy to do, and great for beginners (there are no increases or decreases). Additionally, the Checker stitch has a lovely texture to it, and although it’s not reversible, both sides look pretty. Similar to the Embossed Blocks stitch we practiced a while ago, it stays flat no matter what; so there’s no need to add an edge or border. Which makes it perfect for scarves, infinite cowls, blankets, hats, but also for a sweater or cardigan. Without further ado, grab your needles, and some yarn, and let’s get busy! Abbreviations…

How to knit the Seed Diamond stitch (knit and purl)

    April 8, 2023 /

Today, you’ll learn how to knit the Seed Diamond stitch; another knit and purl pattern (because we knitters love them). It reminds me of the classic Diamond Brocade stitch we practiced a while ago, but this one is a bit “busier” 😉 It has a lovely texture to it (I believe that the Seed texture is always kind of cute). In fact, the Seed Diamond stitch is great for baby stuff, yet it will also work for a blankie, or a cushion. Honestly, it’s easy to knit; there is no need to increase or decrease (nor cross stitches). I’m sure that if you can knit and purl, you can do…

How to Knit a 2×2 Rib Stitch without Purling (2-row-repeat)

    January 21, 2023 /

Strange but true, it is possible to knit the Rib stitch without purling 🙂 It’s also possible to knit the Fisherman’s Rib without purling… YAY! And in this tutorial, free, gratis, and for no money down, I’ll show you how. By now you’re asking yourself what’s with all the enthusiasm? Well, it’s no secret that for many of us knitters, the purl stitch is somewhat of a “necessary evil”. Let’s just say that the purl stitch goes against the natural hand movement that we all learned from day one when we first started knitting. Clearly, we have to use it, because, without it, we couldn’t create so many marvelous patterns,…

How to knit the Sailor’s Rib stitch pattern (only 4 rows!)

    January 17, 2023 /

Today, you’ll learn how to knit the Sailor’s Rib stitch; a textured pattern, full of advantages for us knitters (similar yet more detailed than the Little Boxes stitch we practiced years ago). Firstly, it’s a super easy four-row repeat pattern, which combines only knit and purl stitches, great for beginners (no need to increase or decrease at all). Secondly, although both sides are different, I’d say that the Sailor’s Rib stitch is a reversible knitting pattern. Why? Well, the so-called “wrong side” of the work looks pretty too, so it’s a nice option for scarves, throws, blankets, etc. Last but not least, it doesn’t curl or bend. The fabric lays…
