How to Knit Vertical Stripes ( a 2-row-repeat pattern)

    August 22, 2020 /

In today’s tutorial, you’ll learn how to knit vertical stripes. A two-row repeat pattern, that combines knitting and purling, easy to knit, ideal for beginners. It shares the same DNA of the Slip Stitch Rib we learned sometime ago. The Vertical Stripes stitch is perfect for knitting scarves, infinite cowls, blankets, etc., because although it’s not reversible, it doesn’t curl, and it’s unisex: It will work for women’s and men’s garments. Knit it with single-color fibers, or, as I did for this tutorial, using a variegated cotton yarn. It’s one of those stitches that really pops with those kind of yarns. So, if you are a beginner, and you just…

Two-row repeat reversible lace knitting pattern

    April 14, 2020 /

In today’s tutorial, you’ll learn how to knit a vertical lace stitch, great for knitting a wide range of projects, because it’s reversible (identical on both sides), and it doesn’t curl!  This reversible lace knitting stitch is a two-row repeat pattern, full of texture, and pretty easy to memorize (there are just a couple of simple steps to remember). This is another so called “true lace” knitting pattern (same category as the Saint John’s Wort stitch we practiced last week), because the alternative rows are not just plain purl rows. The lace is worked in each row. Before we start, please do remember my two “must-dos” when lace knitting: Always…

Lace Rib knitting stitch pattern: Reversible and it doesn’t curl

    February 22, 2020 /

In today’s tutorial, you’ll learn how to knit a great substitute for the classic ribbing: The Lace Rib stitch.  Easy to knit, reversible, pretty stretchy, and it doesn’t curl… plus, it’s a two-row repeat pattern. The Lace Rib stitch has a great texture to it, perfect for knitting the hems and cuffs of a stylish jumper or cardigan, or for knitting a romantic scarf or rectangular shawl. It features embossed columns, that give it an elegant vertical look (similar to the Feather Rib stitch). This swatch (and the swatch on the video) was knitted using a beautiful set of bamboo needles Let’s get started! Abbreviations CO: Cast on WS: Wrong…

Horizontal slipped stitch: A reversible, two-row repeat knitting pattern

    January 24, 2020 /

In this tutorial, you’ll learn a pretty stitch: The Horizontal Slipped stitch. This pattern is quite delicate, elegant, yet easy to knit: a two-row repeat stitch that combines knits and purls while slipping a couple of stitches. It’s a unisex and reversible stitch (both sides look beautiful, although they are not identical), ideal for knitting women’s and men’s cowls, scarves and sweaters. Before recording the video tutorial I knitted several swatches using different yarn qualities and thicknesses… And my suggestion is to use a mildly thin yarn, for example, DK or light worsted weight yarn, for US 6 (4 mm) knitting needles. And this swatch was knitted using one of…

Easy Scarf knitting stitch pattern: Identical on both sides

    December 20, 2019 /

Today, you’ll learn how to knit an adorable scarf knitting stitch pattern, ideal for beginners.  Its advantages are many: It doesn’t curl, it’s reversible and identical on both sides, and it’s a two-row repeat pattern. This scarf knitting stitch pattern is created only by a combination of knits and purls (no increases, decreases, nor slip stitches are required). Easy to knit, it’s a great stitch for knitting women’s and men’s scarves, cowls, and even a blanket, as well as the last version of the Broken Rib we learned some days ago. Feather Rib knitting pattern: A two-row repeat stitch

    November 7, 2019 /

In this tutorial, you will learn how to knit the Feather Rib pattern: An alternative to the traditional Ribbing stitch. Easy and quick to knit (it’s a two-row repeat stitch), textured (feathers are embossed), and it includes a little bit of lace. Those of us who knit sweaters and cardigans on a regular basis, sometimes get weary of knitting the usual 1×1 and 2×2 ribbing stitches… So it´s nice to have an inventory of different options for stitches to knit the hems and cuffs of our sweaters. It’s motivating and it creates great enthusiasm for a new project (IMHO). The Feather Rib pattern is especially suitable when knitting a sweater…

Blanket stitch knitting pattern: Easy and quick, ideal for beginners

    October 30, 2019 /

A perfect stitch for knitting blankets is… surprise, surprise… Blanket stitch! It’s an easy stitch for beginners as you only need to knit and purl, what’s more, it doesn’t curl. It has a great texture to it, it is not reversible but the wrong side of the work looks pretty good all the same, and uses only a two-row repeat pattern. There are no other complications and you can learn it as you go. The Blanket stitch also works well when knitting scarves, cowls and even sweaters for boys and girls of all ages. The vertical columns are slimming and who doesn’t want to look svelte? This is quite simply…

Spine stitch: A two-row repeat knitting pattern

    October 19, 2019 /

In today’s tutorial, you’ll learn how to knit the Spine stitch. A crossed pattern, easy to knit (there are only two steps and two rows to memorize). This dense stitch has a beautiful texture, and in this lesson, you’ll also learn how to cross stitches without using a cable needle. The Spine stitch is ideal for knitting an infinity cowl, a maxi scarf, a sweater, or a rectangular shawl. It’s not reversible, but it’s perfect for any big piece (using thick wool and big needles, to get the chunky look!). It shares the same DNA as the: Crest stitch Crossed Check stitch Abbreviations CO: Cast on st: Stitch RS: Right…
