Mock Rib knitting stitch: An easy two-row repeat pattern – So Woolly

    November 18, 2019 /

The Mock Rib stitch is an easy two-row repeat pattern, perfect for beginners. If you know your knits and purls, this one is for you! (No increases nor decreases are needed). It has a nice texture to it, similar to the Blanket stitch we knitted a couple of weeks ago, it’s ideal for knitting blankets, scarves, cowls, sweaters, hats, mittens, baby clothing, cushions… you name it 😉 This swatch is knitted in 100% cotton yarn, using 5 mm needles: Abbreviations CO: Cast on st: Stitch RS: Right side of the work k: Knit p: Purl BO: Bind off Remember, even for knits and purls stitches, everything will be easier if…

Feather Rib knitting pattern: A two-row repeat stitch

    November 7, 2019 /

In this tutorial, you will learn how to knit the Feather Rib pattern: An alternative to the traditional Ribbing stitch. Easy and quick to knit (it’s a two-row repeat stitch), textured (feathers are embossed), and it includes a little bit of lace. Those of us who knit sweaters and cardigans on a regular basis, sometimes get weary of knitting the usual 1×1 and 2×2 ribbing stitches… So it´s nice to have an inventory of different options for stitches to knit the hems and cuffs of our sweaters. It’s motivating and it creates great enthusiasm for a new project (IMHO). The Feather Rib pattern is especially suitable when knitting a sweater…

Blanket stitch knitting pattern: Easy and quick, ideal for beginners

    October 30, 2019 /

A perfect stitch for knitting blankets is… surprise, surprise… Blanket stitch! It’s an easy stitch for beginners as you only need to knit and purl, what’s more, it doesn’t curl. It has a great texture to it, it is not reversible but the wrong side of the work looks pretty good all the same, and uses only a two-row repeat pattern. There are no other complications and you can learn it as you go. The Blanket stitch also works well when knitting scarves, cowls and even sweaters for boys and girls of all ages. The vertical columns are slimming and who doesn’t want to look svelte? This is quite simply…

Seagull stitch: The perfect excuse to knit a wrap

    March 14, 2019 /

I live at the beach and it’s still Winter, but the seagulls never abandon us! This made me think of this lovely stitch, it´s almost identical to their sillhouette… The Seagull stitch is a sophisticated pattern, elegant, great for knitting a shawl, super scarf, poncho or wrap (something that has a large surface area 🙂 It’s easy to knit, only 4 rows are required, just a couple of steps to repeat, and if you haven’t tried to cross stitches yet, this is a great opportunity to learn (such as the Crests stitch we learned sometime ago). This gauge swatch is knitted in very rustic cotton, without any treatment and 4 mm…

How to knit the Crests stitch: dense and textured

    September 27, 2018 /

The Crests stitch is an easier way to learn how to cross stitches, in case you haven’t knitted cables yet. It’s dense and textured, which can be used to knit women’s and men’s clothing and accessories. A perfect stitch to knit cowls, sweaters and cardigans, bags, cushions, a rectangular shawl or wrap, and so much more! To cross the stitches you’ll need a cable needle, that can be replaced using a pencil, a hair clip, a third needle, etc…anything you have, to leave a couple of stitches standing.   Abbreviations CO: Cast on St: Stitch K: Knit P: Purl  WS: Wrong side RS: Right side CN: Cable needle BO: Bind…

How to knit the Slip Stitch Rib

    September 13, 2018 /

An elegant variant of the well known Rib stitch, the Slip Stitch Rib is perfect for scarves, cowls, bags, blankets, and many other projects. There are many advantages: The Slip Stitch Rib doesn’t roll up, it’s reversible, and unisex! Ideal for knitting both men’s and women’s clothing and accessories. It’s also really easy to knit, there are only 2 rows and few steps to memorize. What I like the most are the embossed vertical stripes, which give a slim look to the silhouette…in case you are thinking about knitting a pullover, sweater or tank top… Ok… it’s knitting time!   Abbreviations CO: Cast on st: Stitch K: Knit P: Purl …

A very cute stitch that combines lace and texture, for everyone, including knitters who may have been slightly scared by that four letter word… lace.  All you need to know is how to knit and how to purl…the rest will be explained, step by step on the video tutorial. The textured eyelets stitch pattern isn’t reversible, but it doesn’t roll, so it can be used to knit cowls, vests, summer sweaters, jackets, wraps or shawls….you name it! Learn How to Knit Quickly – Lesson 7: Seed stitch

    March 5, 2018 /

Seed stitch   In this tutorial we are going to learn how to knit the Seed stitch (also known as the Moss stitch, but there is a difference: The Moss stitch has 2 rows; the Seed stitch has only 1 row). We will learn the Moss stitch in another lesson of the Learn How to Knit Quickly series. The demonstration covers both: English and Continental knitting styles. The Seed stitch is very cute, ideal for baby garments, blankets and sweater edges, but I love it so much, that I use it for cowls, scarves, hats…you name it. The good news are that if you know how to knit and how to…

    Chinese Waves knitting stitch pattern

    October 16, 2017 /

A textured, and different stitch knitting pattern. The Chinese Waves stitch is ideal for knitting maxi scarves and cowls for anybody. Very easy to make, all you have to do is knit in two of the four rows. It is not reversible or double-faced, but it does not curl…so it’s worth it.   Chinese Waves knitting stitch pattern   Cast on an odd number of stitches. 1º Row (Right side of the work): Knit 2º Row (Wrong side of the work): Knit 1, *slip 1 as if to purl, knit 1*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. 3º Row: Knit 4º Row: Knit 2, *slip…

Easy Knitting stitch pattern for Baby Clothing

    October 13, 2017 /

A beautiful textured stitch especially for baby clothes, easy to knit (only 2 rows and 2 steps). This stitch doesn’t curl, and it’s not reversible, but the back side looks great too! That’s why I also like it for knitting scarves, cushions or blankets. Easy knitting stitch pattern for baby clothing Cast on an even number of stitches + 1 (for example, 10 + 1 = 11 stitches). 1º row: knit every stitch of the row, front and back. 2º row: *knit 2 together, purl 2 together*. Repeat from * to*. These two rows form the pattern, so you do not have much to memorize!   Enjoy the video: Knitting…
