Knit stitch patterns and video tutorials in the round

In this post, I’m sharing various knit stitch patterns in the round, including written instructions and video tutorials.

In fact, I posted some of them over the last few weeks, others were published in previous years.

However, I wanted to have all of them in one place, so here you go:

Rib stitch “without purling” in the round

Rib stitch "without purling" knitted in the round

This is a two-row repeat pattern, and although its name refers to “without purling”, the truth is that when knitted in the round, we do have to purl.

Actually, I realized that when converting it to circulars; when worked flat, this Rib stitch doesn’t require purls.

Things happen when we change a flat pattern to circular… some changes are unanticipated!

Abbreviations

CO: Cast on

st: Stitch

RS: Right side

K: Knit

P: Purl

wyif: With yarn in front

BO: Bind off

Instructions

CO multiples of 6; i.e.: 6 * 3 = 18 st.

Round 1: *K4, wyif sl2pw*. Repeat from * to *, to end

Round 2: *K2, P4*. Repeat from * to *, to end.

These two rounds create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.

When finished, BO working each st as it presents after row 1.

Shaker stitch in the round (aka Half Fisherman’s Rib)

Shaker stitch in the round
The right side of the work

Without a doubt, this is another lovely two-row repeat pattern, easy to do, and not common at all…

And when I converted it to circulars, there were also surprises, you’ll see 😉

Abbreviations

CO: Cast on

RS: Right side of the work

st: Stitch

K: Knit

K1bo: Knit one stitch from the row below (insert the needle in the stitch form the previous row and knit).

P1bo: Purl one stitch from the round below (insert the needle from back to front into the stitch from the previous round and purl).

P: Purl

BO: Bind off

Instructions

CO an even number of stitches.

1º and every odd round: K across

2º and every even round: *K1, P1bo*. Repeat from * to *, to end.

These two rounds create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.

When finished, BO working each st as it presents, after round 1 (in the video, I’ll show you what to do).

Shaker stitch in the round

“One-row” repeat reversible pattern in the round

"One-row" repeat pattern knitted in the round

We practiced this stitch with straight needles a couple of years ago, and it was very popular, so I decided to try it in the round.

The result was again unexpected: When knitted in the round, it takes two rows to form the same pattern.

Abbreviations

CO: Cast on

st: Stitch

K: Knit

P: Purl

k1tbl: Knit one stitch through the back loop

p1tbl: Purl one stitch through the back loop

BO: Bind off

Instructions

CO multiples of 4; i.e.: 4 * 4 = 16 stitches.

1º round: *K3, P1*. Repeat from * to *, to the end of the round

2º round: *P2, K1tbl, P1tbl*. Repeat from * to *, to the end of the round.

These two rounds create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached. When finished, BO after round 2, working each stitch as it presents.

“One-row” reversible knitting stitch pattern in the round

Edelweiss stitch in the round

Edelweiss stitch pattern knitted in the round

Last but not least, I’m sahring one of the most visited tutorials on my website is the Edelweiss stitch knitted flat.

And again, there were many requests to publish the instructions with circular needles.

Honestly, this one took me more time to work out what to do, because of its diagonal design…

So, when worked in the round, this pattern includes a couple of new steps in round 2 (in the video, I’ll explain it step by step).

Abbreviations

CO: Cast on

st: Stitch

K: Knit

P: Purl

p2tog: Purl two stitches together

k2tog: Knit two stitches together

Sl1pw: Slip one stitch purlwise

Sl1: Slip one stitch

M: Marker

BO: Bind off

Instructions

CO multiples of 4 st; i.e. 4 * 4 = 16 st.

1º and 3º rows: K across

2º row: K1, *p2tog, don’t drop it off, k2tog*. Repeat from * to * to last st

Sl1pw, remove M, put the st back onto the left-hand needle, p2tog, don’t drop it off, k2tog, put 1 st back onto the left-hand needle, place M, Sl1pw back to the left-hand needle.

This st is already knitted and it will be the first st of the third row.

4º row: *p2tog, don’t drop it off the left needle, k2tog*. Repeat from * to *, to the end

These four rows create the pattern. Keep knitting until the desired length is reached. When finished, BO knitwise after a 4º row.

Now I have to go, my little Woolly…

But first, I’d like to mention that I’ll be adding more patterns as I post stitch patterns that already were posted using straight needles.

I hope you like them and don’t forget to share the love!

Hugs and happy knitting 🙂

xoxo
