How to knit an Easy Lace Ladder in only two rows

Today, you’ll learn how to knit an Easy Lace Ladder in just two rows; a great pattern for a sweater, cardigan, or vest, amongst other projects.

In fact, I’m using it for the bottom of a cardigan I’m knitting at the moment.

One of the things that I like the most about this pattern is that is really easy to knit…

Actually, the real “work” will be made on every odd row, the even rows are “resting” rows (plain purl rows).

In the end, you have to memorize a couple of steps made for the odd rows only.

Besides, the decreases used to create this design are the easiest: Knit two stitches together, which is a right-leaning decrease, and a simple left-leaning decrease.

However, there is nothing to be worried about! It doesn’t matter if you’ve never tried them… I’m showing you how to do it in both, English and Continental styles.

And if you like to knit in the round, you’ll find those instructions too (further down below).

Secondly, I’d like to share that if you don’t add an edge or a border (like a ribbing), the bottom will form a picot edge due to the decreases (which is also nice).

Last but not least, I’d like to remind you:

My favorite tips to be successful when knitting lace patterns

First of all, everything will go smoothly if you use sharp-tipped needles (they will ease the decreases, saving you time and effort) #ad

Finally, to get a professional result (a plain fabric, without wrinkles, and crispy stitches), don’t forget to block your garment.

If you are knitting a sweater, I suggest you block the pieces before joining them.

This blocking board and the pins will be your best friends 😉 #ad

Ok, enough chatting, it’s time to knit!

Grab your needles, and a little bit of yarn, and let’s get started 🙂

Abbreviations

CO: Cast on

st: Stitch

K: Knit

P: Purl

yo: Yarn over

k2tog: Knit two stitches together

Easy Lace Ladder (straight needles)

CO multiples of 8 + 2; i.e.: 8 * 3 = 24 + 2 = 26 stitches.

1º and every odd row (RS): K2, *yo, K2, sd, k2tog, yo, K2*. Repeat from * to *, to end.

2º and every even row: P across

These two rows create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.

When finished, BO purlwise after a row 1 (WS).

Easy Lace Ladder (in the round)
