How to knit Autumn Leaves: Beech and Maple (free patterns

Summer is over, and maybe you’re in the mood of knitting Autumn leaves?

I know I am! So today, I’m sharing how to knit them in two different shapes: Beech and Maple.

Autumn is my favorite season, and this year I would love to do a garland for my coffee table, using knitted leaves.

In fact, I tried to reproduce all the beautiful colors, combining sometimes two different tones at a time, to get this seasonal feeling. I think I’ll knit a couple of 3D pumpkins, to add to this Fall knitting project…

Honestly, they are easy and quick to do, just a couple of grams of yarn is all you’ll need, and it’s a free project: Use your stash, and the needles you have on hand.

The only thing required is a couple of dpn’s (Double Pointed Needles) or a Circular Needle, to do the I-Cord for the stalk (as we did when knitting the Baby Pumpkin Hat for Halloween).

However, we’ll be knitting flat, so no worries if you don’t know how to knit in the round.

So, grab your needles, and a little bit of yarn, and let’s get busy!

Abbreviations

CO: Cast on

RS: Right side of the work

WS: Wrong side

st: Stitch

K: Knit

P: Purl

k1tbl: Knit one stitch through the back loop

yo: Yarn over

ssk: slip one knitwise, slip the next, put both back onto the left-hand needle, and knit them together

k2tog: Knit two stitches together

k3tog: Knit three stitches together

p2tog: Purl two stitches together

sd: Single decrease (slip one stitch knitwise, knit the next, pass the stitch over)

BO: Bind off

Row 1 (RS): Knit across

Row 2: Slide the stitches to the other tip of the needle and knit across

Repeat row 2 until you have 12 rows in total.

How to knit the Leave Shape

Row 1 (RS): K1, yo, k1tbl, yo, k1

Row 2 (and every WS row): P across

Row 3: K2, yo, k1tbl, yo, K2

Row 5: K3, yo, k1tbl, yo, K3

Row 7: K4, yo, k1tbl, yo, K4

Row 9: K5, yo, k1tbl, yo, K5

Row 11: K across

Rows 13, 15, 17, 19, and 21: ssk, knit to last two st, k2tog

Row 23: K3tog or sd.
