How to knit the Zig-Zag Lace #2 stitch pattern
Today, I’m sharing how to knit the Zig-Zag Lace #2 stitch; an eight-row repeat pattern, ideal for becoming a master/ mistress when knitting lace!
Why?
Well, this pattern involves the most common decreasing techniques (the simple decrease and knitting two stitches together), plus the most used increase there is, the yarn over.
Actually, the Zig-Zag Lace #2 stitch has a lovely texture to it, sophisticated yet easy to do, because it’s pretty intuitive.
I’ve used it for the sleeves of a cardigan, to add a subtle touch of lace, and it looks amazing!
But it could be used for a whole sweater too; great if we’re looking for a fabric that is not totally open-worked (because of the reverse Stockinette stitch columns).
However, if you are thinking of knitting a scarf or a blanket, add a nice edge on each side of the garment (the sides tend to bend).
Finally, I will not tire of repeating… don’t forget to block your work when it’s finished 😉

Abbreviations
CO: Cast on
RS: Right side of the work
st: Stitch
K: Knit
P: Purl
yo: Yarn over
k2tog: knit two stitches together
sd: Single left-leaning decrease (slip one stitch as if to knit, knit the next and pass the slipped stitch over).
BO: Bind off
WS: Wrong side of the work
Using one of my favorite bamboo needles US 6 / 4 mm (sharp tip, great for lace) #ad
N.B.:
The odd rows form the right side of the work.
There are no selvage stitches included in the calculation (add two, if you’d like to have them).
Zig-Zag Lace #2 knitting pattern
CO multiples of 8 + 3; i.e.: 8 * 3 = 24 + 3 = 27 st.
1º row: *P3, K2, yo, sd, K1*. Repeat from * to *, to last 3 st, ending the row with P3
Rows 2, 4, 6, and 8: K3, *P5, K3*. Repeat from * to *, to end
3º row: *P3, K3, yo, sd*. Repeat from * to *, to last 3 st, ending the row with P3
5º row: *P3, K1, k2tog, yo, K2*. Repeat from * to *, to last 3 st, ending the row with P3
7º row: *P3, k2tog, yo, K3*. Repeat from * to *, to last 3 st, ending the row with P3.
These eight rows create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.
When finished, BO working each stitch as it presents, after a row 7 (WS).
