How to knit the Waved Welt stitch (knit and purl pattern)

In this post, you’ll learn how to knit the Waved Welt stitch, another member of the Chevron pattern collection 😉

The Waved Welt stitch is easy to do; if you can knit and purl, you can do it (there is no need to slip stitches, increase or decrease)…yay!

One of the reasons why I’ve chosen to show you this one is because the edges don’t curl or bend.

This happens because of the frequency of knit and purl stitches per row.

However, it’s possible that the undulation remains raised, so the steam iron could be your best friend here if you want your garment to be absolutely flat.

Another advantage is that it’s a reversible knitting pattern; it’s identical on both sides!

If you’re thinking of knitting a scarf, for example, this one is for you.

Although I’d like to start right now, it’s best if I share with you another one of my knitting top tips:

As you have noticed, the definition of the pattern is important, when knitting knit and purl stitches.

Everything will look crispier if your needles are at least one size smaller than the manufacturer’s suggestion. It depends on the thickness of the fiber (it could be more than one size).

For example, the swatch shown in the pictures was made using Alpaca (recommended for US 13 needles / 9 mm), and US 10.5 / 6.5 mm needles.

This way the stitches are not too loose and the purl stitches will stand out 😉

Okeydokey, no more chatting!

Grab your needles, and some yarn, and let’s knit.

CO multiples of 8 + 1; i.e.: 8 * 2 = 16 + 1 = 17 st.

1º row (RS): *P1, K7*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, P1

2º row: K2, *P5, K3*. Repeat from * to *, to last 7 st, P5, K2

3º row: P3, *K3, P5*. Repeat from * to *, to last 6 st, K3, P3

4º row: K4, *P1, K7*. Repeat from * to *, to last 5 st, P1, K4

5º row: *K1, P7*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, K1

6º row: P2, *K5, P3*. Repeat from * to *, to last 7 st, K5, P2

7º row: K3, *P3, K5*. Repeat from * to *, to last 6 st, P3, K3

8º row: P4, *K1, P7*. Repeat from * to *, to last 5 st, K1, P4

These eight rows create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.

When finished BO working each as it presents after a row 7 (WS).
