Easy 4-Row Repeat Lace Stitch Pattern: Cute & Quick + Video
Today, youโll learn how to knit an easy 4-row repeat lace stitch, that isnโt only quick to memorize, but super cute.
The good news is that itโs simpler than it looks!
In a previous tutorial called โLace Made Easyโ, I shared another super easy 4-row repeat lace pattern, as well as the answers to the most frequently asked questions you may have.
If you missed it, no worries! Check it out to learn about yarn, needles, blocking, uneven fabric, etc.
Besides, this is a stylish vertical pattern, ideal not only for tops, sweaters or cardigans (what Iโm knitting at the moment), but also for scarves and blankets.
Will it curl?
The ribbed panels between the wavy lace columns give the fabric structure and stretchiness, and prevent it from curling.
However, the sides tend to bend, so, as usual, I recommend knitting a swatch before starting your project.
Swatching not only will help you to see if a pattern curls or not (if the sides bend, add an edge in Seed Stitch on each side).
Itโs the fastest way to find out if the pattern works with the yarn and needles you choose.
Additionally, when a swatch is big enough (at least 4 x 4 in / 10 x 10 cm approx.), itโs the most accurate method to measure your pattern, and get the correct gauge (number of stitches per in / cm).
Yarn and Needles
As the wavy lace columns are the main element of this pattern, youโd need to avoid fuzzy/fluffy yarns.
A solid yarn will give you well defined stitches, and the lace work will stand out.
For example, for my cardigan I used 100% Egyptian Mercerized Cotton Yarn (nยบ 3, light or DK weight). Itโs super smooth, durable and strong #ad
Iโve been using this cotton for some of my sweaters and cardigans, and they still look great after several washes!
Iโd say they look better now because they arenโt so shiny anymore ๐
And one of my favorite US 7 (4.5 mm) interchangeable needles set (mine is around 12 years old).
Theyโre made out of birch wood, and I love them because theyโre smooth, work with every sort of yarn!
They also have sharp tips, which is great for lace knitting (another non-negotiable requirement).
Gauge
A of 4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm) square worked in this lace stitch using the needle size and yarn mentioned above = 26 stitches and 32 rows.
