How to Knit the Woven ZigZag Stitch + video

Today, Iโ€™m sharing how to knit the Woven ZigZag stitch, a pattern that blows my mind!

Although it looks complicated, itโ€™s so simple, and yet so pretty, that Iโ€™m sure youโ€™d like to give it a try ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Woven ZigZag is an eight-row repeat pattern; the good news is that six of them are the same, and it has a short repeat.

So, if you can knit and purl, this one will be easy for you.

It creates a unique fabric, similar to the Diagonal Slipped Stitch we practiced a while ago.

And itโ€™ll work for a wide range of projects: From sweaters and blankets to accessoriesโ€ฆeven for home decor projects <3

However, Iโ€™d add an ice edge if I were knitting a garment that should stay flat.

If you ask me, I think itโ€™s a great pattern for something large, so it can shine!

Ok, enough chatting.

Grab your needles and some yarn, and letโ€™s knit an amazing swatch together ๐Ÿ™‚

CO: Cast on

st: Stitch

RS: Right side of the work

K: Knit

wyif: With yarn in front

wyib: With yarn in back

sl2pw: Slip two stitches purlwise (pass them onto the right-hand needle as if to purl)

Notes Before Starting

The odd rows form the right side of the work.

Always slip the stitches as if to purl.

Please note that rows 2 and 8 are the same, such as rows 3 and 7, and rows 4 and 6; therefore, I wrote the instructions once.

CO multiples of 6 + 2 (edge/selvage stitches). For example: 6 * 3 = 18 + 2 = 20 stitches.

Row 1 (RS): K1 (edge), *wyif sl12pw, K4*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, K1 (edge)

Rows 2 and 8: P1 (edge), *P3, *wyib sl2pw, P1*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, P1

Rows 3 and 7: K1 (edge), *K2, wyif sl12pw, K2*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, K1 (edge)

Rows 4 and 6:P1 (edge), *P1, *wyib sl2pw, P3*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, P1

Row 5:K1 (edge), *K4, wyif sl12pw*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, K1 (edge).

These eight rows create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.

When finished, BO purlwise if you used the Long Tail CO method, after row 8 (RS).

Or BO knitwise, if you used another CO method.
