Pop Spots Stitch Pattern
Today, you’ll learn how to knit the Pop Spots stitch in two colors.
It’s an eye-catching pattern, easy and fun to make!
Although it looks like Fair Isle knitting, the only techniques required are knitting and purling 😉
Besides, what I love the most is that the pop spots look like a line of little sheep 🙂
Honestly, I think this pattern is great for baby-children stuff: From sweaters/cardigans to blankets…
However, it needs a nice edge if you’re knitting a piece that should stay flat because it curls (at the end of the day is a Stockinette stitch pattern).
For example, if I were to knit a blanket, I’d pick up and knit the 4 edges in Garter, Seed, Irish Moss, or even the Bumpy stitch once it’s finished.
Last but not least, when knitting two or more color stitch patterns, try to use the same quality and yarn weight, to keep an even fabric.

Abbreviations
CA: Color “A” (background color)
CB: Color “B” (secondary color)
CO: Cast on
st: Stitch
RS: Right side of the work
K: Knit
P: Purl
BO: Bind off
WS: Wrong side of the work
Notes Before Starting:
The odd rows form the right side of the work.
The selvage/edge stitches (the first and the last, will be knitted on every odd row and purled on every even row.
We’ll change colors every 4 rows, and trap the yarn every 2 rows (check out the video).
The first 4 rows are setup rows. Rows 5 to 12 create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.
Pop Spots Knitting Pattern
With CA, CO multiples of 4 + 3 + 2 (edge stitches); i.e.: 4 * 3 = 12 + 3 = 15 + 2= 17 st. Please note that for symmetry, the minimum of stitches should be 17.
Setup Rows
Rows 1 and 3 (RS): K across
Rows 2 and 4: P across
The pattern repeat starts here:
Rows 5 and 7: With CB, K across
Rows 6 and 8: P across
Row 9: With CA, K1 (edge), *K3, drop the next stitch 4 rows below, put it back onto the right-hand needle, together with the 4 strands from the previous rows, and knit that stitch (pulling the yarn through the strands and the stitch 4 rows below)*. Repeat from * to *, to last 4 stitches, ending with K4 (K3 and K1, the edge st).
Rows 10 and 12: P across
Row 11: K across
These last 8 rows create the pattern (rows 5 to 12). Repeat them until the desired length is reached.
For symmetry, BO purlwise after row 11 (WS).
