How to knit the Diamond Brocade stitch pattern
In this post, you’ll learn how to knit the Diamond Brocade stitch, another classic of the knitting world.
I think it’s an elegant knitting pattern, the diamonds show slightly raised, due to the combination of knit and purl stitches.
However, it’s pretty easy to do, and although it’s not reversible, the so-called “wrong” side of the work, looks special too…
Furthermore, the Diamond Brocade stitch lays flat, so I’d choose it for a blanket, without a doubt.
Having said that, in case you are thinking about knitting a blanket, I’d add a nice edge in Seed stitch, on each side of the project (to match the diamonds ;).
The good news is that there are neither increases nor decreases involved… it’s so easy that it doesn’t matter if the only stitches you know are knit and purl!
Before I forget, I’d like to make a suggestion: The Diamond Brocade includes an 8 stitch repeat; so if you need to cast on a large number of stitches, add a marker every 1 or 2 repeats.
This simple step will be of great help in case you lose count of your stitches; the marker allows you to count quickly, and fix anything you need to.
Without further ado, grab your needles, a little bit of yarn, and let’s get busy 🙂

How to knit the Diamond Brocade stitch
CO multiples of 8 + 1 + 2 (selvage stitches); i.e.: 8 * 3 = 24 + 1 = 25 + 2 = 27 st.
1º row (RS): K1, *P1, K7*. Repeat from * to *, to last 2 st, P1, K1
2º and 8º rows: K1, P1, *K1, P5, K1, P1*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, K1
3º and 7º rows: K1, *K2, P1, K3, P1, K1*. Repeat from * to *, to last 2 st, K2
4º and 6º rows: K1, P1, *P2, K1, P1, K1, P3*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, K1
5º row: K1, *K4, P1, K3*. Repeat from * to *, to last 2 st, K2.
These eight rows create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.
When finished, BO after row 7 (WS), working each stitch as it presents.
You can also BO purlwise, after row 8 (RS).

Hugs, happy knitting and remember that a kiss on the hand may be quite continental, but diamonds are a girl’s best friend!
