Knit 3 Stitches And Create an Amazing Reversible Fabric + Video

The title “Knit 3 stitches and create an amazing reversible fabric” sounds too good to be true?

No worries, I’ll show you how to do it!

Interestingly enough, it’s a one-row repeat pattern, made out of knit stitches only; no purling, yarn over, crossing, slipping stitches is needed  ✅

How does this fabric behave?

It has everything we knitters love:

– A rich, squishy texture

– It’s reversible (both sides are identical)

– And doesn’t curl

Which means that adding a border is completely optional (you’ll see what to do to get neat perfect edges in the instructions below).

Where to Use the Knit 3 Stitches Pattern?

If you want to knit a scarf or any other piece that should stay flat, this one is for you 😉

In summary, this “Knit 3 Stitches” pattern is ideal for shrugs, throws, infinite cowls, rectangular shawls, and blankets.

Although I’d use it for hats too!

Yarn and Needles I used

This swatch was made with 100% Merino Superwash wool yarn (super soft, non-fuzzy, and elastic), worsted weight, medium, or number 4 #ad

And I used the needle size recommended is US 8 (5 mm).

I prefer bamboo or wooden needles, and this set is one of my favorites (short pointy, smooth, beautiful needles made out of birchwood) #ad

Gauge

I made a rectangle of 29 stitches x 26 rows = 5 in (12.7 cm) x 3 3/4 in (9.5 cm) without blocking.

About blocking the “Knit 3 Stitches” pattern:

This pattern doesn’t really need it, but if you haven’t worked with the wool that you have chosen, it’s better to block your swatch before committing to knitting the entire piece.

Why?

The process of blocking opens up the fabric, and depending on the yarn, it can make the fabric bigger, which is especially important when making hats, sweaters, etc.

Knit 3 Stitch Pattern – Instructions

CO multiples of 3 + 2 sts (edge). For example: 3 * 4 = 12 + 2 = 14 sts.

Row 1 (RS): wyif sl1pw (edge), *wyib K1, K the third, don’t take it off, K the second, and drop both of the left-hand needle*. Repeat from * to *, to last st, K1 (edge).

This only row creates the pattern. Keep working it until the desired length is reached.
