How to knit a Sweater for children aged 2-4 years, step by step
A basic pattern for knitting a children’s sweater using straight needles, step by step. If you only know how to knit and how to purl, this one is perfect for you!
The size of this Raglan sweater is for toddlers around 2 to 4 years of age, and it’s really easy to customize. It’s also much easier than the V-Neck Baby Cardigan we made last time!

Chest: 32 cm / 24 in
Body length (from underarm to hem): 22.5 cm / 8.85 in
Sleeve length (underarm to cuff): 23 cm / 9 in

4 mm and 5 mm knitting needles (US 6 and 8 sizes) #ad

Inc 1: Increase one stitch (knit one, don’t drop it from the left-hand needle, and knit it again through the back loop).
BO: Bind off
Back and Front
With smaller needles, CO 58 st.
Ribbing
Knit 8 rows in 2×2 Rib stitch, as follows:
1º and every odd row (RS): *K2, P2*. Repeat from * to *, ending with K2.
2º and every even row: *P2, K2*. Repeat from * to *, ending with P2.
Stockinette stitch section
With bigger needles knit 46 rows in Stockinette stitch:
1º and every odd row: Knit across
2º and every even row: Purl across
Raglan shaping
BO 2 st at the beginning of the next 2 rows.
Continue knitting in Stockinette stitch for 20 additional rows, decreasing 2 st on every odd row (1 st at the beginning, 1 st at the end of the row):
1º and every odd row: K1, ssk, k to last 3 st, k2tog, K1.
2º and every even row: Purl across. 34 st remain.
Knit 2 more rows (21 and 22) without decreasing.
Neckline Ribbing
With smaller needles knit 6 rows in 2×2 Ribbing stitch, decreasing 2 st in rows 2 and 4:
1º row: *K2, P2*. Repeat from * to *, ending with K2.
2º row: P1, k2tog, K1, *P2, K2*. Repeat from * to *, to last 4 st, K1, k2tog, P1.
3º row: K1, *P2, K2*. Repeat from * to *, to last 3 st, P2, K1.
4º row: P1, k2tog, *P2, K2*. Repeat from * to *, to last 3 st, k2tog, P1.

Ribbing
Knit 8 rows in 2×2 Rib stitch, as follows:

Stockinette stitch section
With bigger needles knit 48 rows in Stockinette stitch, decreasing 6 st on the 1º row, as follows:
1º row: K3, k2tog, [K5, k2tog] 5 times, K2. 36 st remain.
2º and every even row: Purl across
3º and every odd row: Knit across.
On rows 11 and 23, increase 2 st, one at the beginning and one at the end of each row:
11º and 23º rows: K1, Inc 1, k to last 2 st, Inc 1, K1. 40 st remain.
Decrease 2 st on row 47:
47º row: K1, ssk, k to last 3 st, k2tog, K1. 38 st remain.
48ª row: Purl across.
Raglan Shaping
Knit 24 rows in Stockinette stitch, decreasing 2 st on the following rows:
3º, 5º, 7º, 9º, 11º, 13º, 15º, 17º, 19º, 21º and 23º: K1, ssk, k to last 3 st, k2tog, K1. 16 st remain.
24º row: Purl across.
Neckline Ribbing
With smaller needles, knit 6 rows in 2×2 Rib stitch, decreasing 2 st on rows 1 and 3:
1º row: K1, ssk, *P2, K2*. Repeat from * to * to last 3 st, k2tog, K1. 14 st remain.
2º row: *P2, K2*. Repeat from * to *, ending with P2.
3º row: K1, p2tog, P1, K2, P2, K2, P1, p2tog, K1. 12 st remain.
4º row: P1, K2, P2, K2, P2, K2, P1.
5º row: K1, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2, K1.
6ª row = 4º row
7º row: BO in pattern (work every st as it presents).
