How to knit the Lacy Chevrons stitch pattern (2 rows only!)

In this post, I’m sharing how to knit the Lacy Chevrons stitch, a beautiful lace pattern without a doubt!

By the way, this is the first time I’m knitting this sort of pattern in a lace version. So far, all my Chevron patterns were dense (the Reversible Shadow Chevron is my favorite).

One of the things I love the most about this pattern, apart from its design, rich in texture, is that it only takes two rows to make it!

Although it looks complex, you’ll see that once you’ve worked a couple of rows, it’s pretty intuitive.

In fact, the steps are known by us knitters, and it’s a great way to practice the double decrease, which I think makes this pattern something special.

However, I have to warn you about the even rows…

Honestly, I had never seen anything like this: The Lacy Chevrons stitch includes a “funny yarn over” made on the even rows (no worries, in the video you’ll find out what I’m talking about 😉

And there is one more thing we need to take into account: The repeat on the odd rows has seven stitches, and after working those rows, we’ll end up with one stitch fewer per repeat.

Instead of having seven stitches on each repeat, you’ll have six. That would be totally normal (and I’m using stitch markers between repeats, to avoid any confusion).

The good news is that on the even rows and because of the “funny yarnovers”, we’ll get back to seven stitches per repeat.

Believe me, you’ll get used to it pretty quickly.

Last but not least, I’d love the Lacy Chevrons stitch for a wrap or rectangular shawl.

But also for a nice Spring-Summer sweater or a vest, using cotton yarn with kind of a rustic look.

It’s like macrame…

Abbreviations

CO: Cast on

st: Stitch

RS: Right side

K: Knit

P: Purl

yo: Yarn over

sl1kw: Slip one stitch knitwise (pass it onto the right-hand needle as if to knit, but don’t knit it).

k2tog: Knit two stitches together

yback: Bring the yarn to the back of the work

WS: Wrong side

BO: Bind off

N.B.:

The odd rows form the right side of the work.

The edge stitches will be knitted on each row.

Remember: After every odd row, the stitch count changes; you’ll have 1 stitch fewer per repeat.

Lacy Chevrons knitting pattern

CO multiples of 7 + 8 + 2 (edge stitches); i.e.: 7 * 2 = 14 + 8 = 22 + 2 = 24 st.

1º and every odd rows (RS): K1 (edge), k2tog, K2, *yo, K2, sl1kw, k2tog, pass slipped st over, K2*. Repeat from * to *, to last 5 st, ending with yo, K2, sl1kw, K1, pass slipped st over, K1 (edge).

2º and every even rows: K1 (edge), P4, *yback, P6*. Repeat from * to *, to last 4 st, ending with yback, P3, K1 (edge).

These two rows create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.

When finished, BO purlwise after row 2 (RS).
