3 Easy One-Row Knit Stitches For Beginners + Video
Today, youโll learn 3 easy one-row knit stitch patterns that are unique…
Why These 3 Stitches Specifically?
Well, I think they have everything that we knitters love (especially if you’re a beginner).
These 3 easy one-row repeat knit stitches share amazing advantages:
All of them have a lovely texture, are identical on both sides, lay flat no matter what, they’re made with just knits and purls (except for the No-Purling Rib), and they’re also quick to memorize (same row and 2 steps mostly).
I decided to group them, so you can knit 3 little swatches, quickly compare and decide which one will be the winner for your next project.
The thing is that most textured stitch patterns have 2 main problems: they can curl, and many of them show what we’d call an โuglyโ wrong side.ย
But not these 3!
What Kind of Knitting Projects are They Better For?
They are ideal for scarves, blankets, and infinite cowls (and any other project where both sides will be visible).
Actually, these 3 one-row repeat patterns are also perfect for dishcloths or hats!
Moreover, they can substitute the classic 1 x 1 or 2 x 2 Rib stitch patterns (from time to time, its important to shake things up a bit).
Enough gabbing, grab your needles, your favorite yarn, and letโs get started!
3 Easy One-Row Reversible Knit Stitches
1. Broken Rib Stitch
- This one is the easiest of them all.
- I used it for a hat and it turned out very pretty ๐
- You can also work this stitch in the round, it’s really simple!
Pro Tip: Combine it with stockinette panels for sweaters / cardigans, to create a lighter texture.

2. Easy One-Row Reversible Stitch
- One of my favorites, without doubt (its texture is irresistible).
- Great for wide scarves and cozy blankets (or throws).
- Super stretchy
- You’ll also find instructions + tutorial to work it in the round!
Pro Tip: Works beautifully in cotton / bamboo yarns (and their blends) for Summer projects.

3. No-Purling Rib Stitch
- This stitch gives you a ribbed look without purling a single stitch! So, if purling isn’t your cup of tea, this Ribbing can be your every-time-rib ๐
- It has half the stretch as the classic 1 x 1 Rib
- It’s also very pretty. I’d use it for the cuffs and hems of my sweaters too, or for the borders of a nice blanket.
Pro Tip: Try it with chunky yarn for a bold, modern look.
