It is a very romantic motif, reversible, forming two different textures on each side of the work. This lace pattern is ideal for knitting sweaters, cowls, summer vests and even scarves, wraps and rectangular shawls. To avoid curling at the edges, you can always knit a nice bright edge on every side of the finished piece. To get this pattern we will use a combination of purls and knits, along with two different kinds of decreases: right leaning decrease, called “knit 2 together”, and the left leaning decrease, known as “ssk”. So, grab your needles and let’s get started! This is the right side of the work:     Abbreviations CO: Cast on sts: Stitches RS: Right side of the work WS: Wrong side of the work k: Knit p: Purl yo: Yarn over k2tog: Knit two stitches together ssk: slip 1 stitch as if to knit, slip the next one, put both back onto the left hand needle and knit them together.   How to knit Vintage Lace Pattern   CO multiples of 6 + 8 (i.e.: 6 + 8; 12 + 8; 18 + 8; 24 + 8…). The swatch on the pics has 26 stitches (18 + 8 = 26).   Row 1 (RS): P2, yo, ssk, [k2tog, yo, p2, yo, ssk] to last 4 sts, k2tog, yo, p2. Row 2 (WS): K2, p2, [p2, k2, p2] to last 4 sts, p2, k2. Row 3: P2, k2tog, yo, [yo, ssk, p2, k2tog, yo] to last 4 sts, yo, ssk, p2. Row 4: K2, p1, k1, [p2, k2, p1, k1] to last 4 sts, p2, k2. Row 5: P1, k2tog, yo, p1, [p1, yo, ssk, k2tog, yo, p1] to last 4 sts, p1, yo, ssk, p1. Row 6: K1, p2, k1, [k1, p4, k1] to last 4 sts, k1, p2, k1. Row 7: P1, yo, ssk, p1, [p1, k2tog, (yo) twice, ssk, p1] to last 4 sts, p1, k2tog, yo, p1. Row 8: K1, p2, k1, [k1, p1, k1, p2, k1] to last 4 sts, k1, p2, k1. These 8 rows create the pattern, repeat them until the desired length is reached (please note that the more rows you knit, the more of the pattern will show).
