Share via: Facebook Twitter Email LinkedIn Copy Link More This is the third part of the multicolored yarns tutorial series, today we’ll learn how to knit the arrowhead slipped stitch or as I call it… the “Game of Thrones” stitch. If you missed the first part, find it here! A stitch, that is not only unusual but utilitarian and unisex, it doesn’t curl (but it’s not reversible). Its vertical pattern is ideal for scarves, tunics, wraps and rectangular shawls. Although the arrowhead slipped stitch (A.S.S) appears complicated, its easy (its a four-row repeat pattern with a great texture), it works well with both multi-colored and unicolored yarns. As proof I have prepared a swatch using both types of fabrics. This swatch is knitted in a lovely soft and chunky Variegated Cotton Yarn, from an interesting brand I am currently trialling.  This cotton is also available in many other lovely colors: The other swatch pictured below, is knitted in Merino Superwash Wool Yarn (I love, love, love this yarn, it’s very soft and the colors are quite simply… spectacular): So without further ado, grab your needles my little Woollies, and let us knit! Abbreviations CO: Cast on st: Stitch K: Knit WS: Wrong side of the work P: Purl sl5: Slip five stitches purl-wise (pass five stitches purl-wise onto the right-hand needle, without purling them). BO: Bind off Arrowhead Slipped stitch CO multiples of 8 + 5 + 4 edge stitches (2 on each side); i.e.: 8 * 2 = 16 + 5 + 4 = 25 stitches. The edge stitches (first 2 and last 2), are knit stitches on each row. 1º and 3º rows (WS): K2, *P5, K3*. Repeat from * to *, K2. 2º row: K2, *sl5, K3*. Repeat from * to *, ending the row with sl5, K2. 4º row: K2, K4, *insert the right-hand needle below the large strand and then, onto the first stitch on the left-hand needle, and knit both together, K7*. Repeat from * to *, ending the last repeat with K4 (instead of K7), K2. These four rows create the pattern. Repeat them until the desired length is reached.
